Atmiya University, Rajkot organized a two days refresher course

School of Pharmacy, Atmiya University, Rajkot, organized a two days refresher course for registered Pharmacists on 13th & 14th July, 2019, sponsored by Gujarat State Pharmacy Council (GSPC). The course received a tremendous response and had 100 participants from various fields of Pharmacy like medical stores, hospitals, primary health centers and industries, from the age group of 23 to 82.

The course started with registration and refreshment at 9.00 am. The inauguration function started with introduction and welcome of guests by Dr. H. M. Tank, Principal, School of Pharmacy, Atmiya University, Rajkot & Dr. Kevin Garala, Associate Professor, School of Pharmacy, Atmiya University, Rajkot, Mr. Mahesh Vekariya, Executive Committee Member, GSPC was the Chief Guest and Dr. Sheela Ramachandran, Pro-chancellor, Atmiya University Rajkot, Dr. P. Santhanakrishnan, Provot, Atmiya University, Rajkot and Col. M. P. Singh, Registrar, Atmiya University, Rajkot were Guests of Honor of inauguration function. Dr. H. M. Tank, Principal welcomed the gathering and Mr. Mahesh Vekariya and Dr. P. Santhanakrishnan delivered presidential address. He advised participants to take advantage of this refresher course for self up gradation.

The valedictory function was graced by Dr. H. M. Tank, Principal, School of Pharmacy, Atmiya University, Rajkot. At the end Ms. Rachana Joshi, Assistant Professor, proposed vote of thanks and congratulated the organizing committee for fruitfully conducting Refresher Course for the registered pharmacists.
All the participants have given their written feedback and were provided the printed course material from college and certificates from Gujarat State Pharmacy Council.

Report of Day - 1
(13th July, 2019)
Lectures were delivered by eminent personalities from healthcare profession and reputed academicians.
Lecture 1:
The course began with insightful lecture regarding ‘Serendipity in Medical Discoveries’ by Dr. H. M. Tank, Principal, School of Pharmacy, Atmiya University, Rajkot. He explained about how the term Serendipity was came. He has elaborated many accidental drug discoveries in detail.
Lecture 2:
Ms. Khushi Pathak, Executive Officer, Drug Information Centre (DIC), Gujarat State Pharmacy Council, Ahmedabad, has delivered lecture on crucial health related aspect ‘Medication error”. She gave an elaborated lecture on various possibilities of error while delivering drugs.
Lecture 3:
Dr. Pankaj Kapupara, Professor, School of Pharmacy, RK University, Rajkot, on “Import and export of drugs”. He provided a comprehensive updates on recent trends and figures in foreign trade.
Lecture 4:
Mr. Vijay Chauhan, Assistant Professor, School of Pharmacy, Atmiya University, Rajkot, he explained ‘Facts and Delusions of Adverse drug reaction’. He has also given various examples of ADR. According to he, it is very important for pharmacists to understand all possible Adverse drug reaction and should report to regulatory bodies.

Report of Day - 2
(14th July, 2019)
Lecture 5:
2nd day of refresher course was started with lecture of Ms. Priya Patel, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Saurashtra University, Rajkot has delivered imperative lecture on ‘Disease specific novel drug delivery system’, which touched the domain of every participant present.
Lecture 6:
Dr. Devang Sheth, Assistant Professor, B.K. Mody Govt Pharmacy College, Rajkot, spoke about ‘Effect of time and biological cycle in drug therapy’. He has nicely discussed every aspects of biological cycle of human and also elaborate effect of time while taking medicines.
Lecture 7:
Dr. Trupesh Pethani, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Saurashtra University, Rajkot delivered a lecture on “Pharmacy Practice Regulation”. He emphasized about the regulations framed under PPR 2015. He made the Pharmacy Practice Regulations easy to understand through pictorial presentation.
Lecture 8 / Objective test:
The objective test was conducted for all participants after completion of afternoon session.
